The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, Issuing a Statement on Oct. 10th
Reporter: Regarding an incident in which Muslims attacked and severely damaged Buddhist monasteries in Bangladesh, the Jogye Order issued a statement appealing for a halt to the suppression of Buddhism in Bangladesh. On Oct. 10th, Ven. Neungdo, the director of the department of planning in the Headquarters of the Jogye Order, made a pronouncement saying, “The suppression of Buddhism in Bangladesh should be stopped.”
“The persecution of minority races and minority religions by the majority cannot be acknowledged for any reason,” Ven. Neungdo said, and he asked the government of Bangladesh “to make a thorough investigation, to establish a clear plan for preventing damage, and to devise various means for protecting minority races and believers in minority religions, in order to prevent the suppression of Buddhism.”
